...my main motivation for visiting the henry ford was to step inside the dymaxion house, 70 years old but still futuristic. the museum houses an impresive collection of gee whiz neato stuff--a massive locomotive, model trains, a wright flyer and other planes, and cars! Cars! CARS!--but the most affecting exhibit is devoted to civil rights, including the bus where Rosa Parks made her stand by staying seated and a short film doc about Jackie Robinson. i got all choked up because their courage is so inspiring but also because we're now seeing how fragile those gains are and how much work remains to be done. the struggle goes on and on... |
