What do you do with an old oil and coal
conversion plant so contaminated that 40 years after its closing toxic goop
still occasionally oozes up from the ground around it? Well, you could
keep people away from it, but if it's on a stretch of scenic lakefront
good for watching fireworks in an up-and-coming city it might be wiser to
throw down some paths and build an industry-themed playbarn for the
kiddies. Post signs advising people to stay off the patchy grass and you've
got it pretty much covered. So it is with Gasworks Park just down the hill
from us here in Fremont. A nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to swim
there. |
