There's a stretch
of waterfront tracks in Ballard
where everything is a variation of
rust--rails, corrugated walls, barbed wire,
piles of industrial park soil, all of it the
least angry orange there is. I told the Rufco
men I'd never seen anything like it, and they
admitted it was a first for them, too,
staplegun and Manlift to wrap a warehouse in
white plastic. Then Lugger Bob was happy with
my answer when I told him I was taking
pictures of brown puddles b/c they'd caught my
eye, a picturetaker himself, but the sunbaked
buddha award for the day goes to Billy, who
stood leaning against his Lincoln under a sign
he'd made himself that invited all passers by
to join him at his Beach on the banks of the
River Traffic. |
