Seattle gets its share of good art. Maya Lin is an architect/designer/artist
best known
for winning the Washington DC
Vietnam
Vets Memorial design competition in 1981.
Her first
gallery show in 8 years is visiting the Henry Art Gallery this summer.
It
consists primarily of common construction materials assembled in unusual
and
striking ways to evoke natural forms--hills, ocean beds, river courses,
basins.
Tonight's opening was too crowded to really meditate on the work, but I'm
looking forward to returning to contemplate her divisions of
space.
