this face was hidden
on the backside of
a slapdash wall in
the basement we've
been remodelling for
the past few months.
(some thrifty person
had repurposed 8-inch
molding as ersatz ship-
lap (minus rabbets).)
these eyes went into
hiding in 1927 and
stayed open in the
dark for 81 years.
by chance, Sept.
30,
1927 becomes signif-
icant because a scrap
from that day lasted.
i destroyed the evi-
dence by denailing,
then sanding the
boards to be reused
again, this time in
the manner intended.
