Jorinda and Joringel.
reading of the happily betrothed
couple in Grimms' fairy tales

makes me wonder if any of my
ancestors might have been so simply
in love, long ago before electricity
had been harnessed and it was oh
so easy to go to bed with the sun.
it must have been quieter then.
now days are routinely shredded
by the sounds of engines, people
driving towards goals and tasks while
radios spew platitudes about love.

i see this true love couple--there
must be at least one in every family
tree--standing in the sun, between
the forest and field, growth all around
them, faces upturned. and not a sound.
