We were happy to be able to get downtown and spend some more time with Monte. We were amazed but unsurprised that people still flock to him, superinsulated bike messengers popping in to warm up between calls. Evan, 21, originally from Spokane, had been interviewed by the Weather Channel and told them he preferred 20 below zero to 100 above. We drank beer and played Scrabble with tiny snap-in tiles of travel set Monte received for Christmas. Jim and Emma picked us up and we caught a $2.50 matinee of Fantastic Mr. Fox--which was charming as hell and I strongly recommend. |
