The
Real
Dirt
on
Farmer
John
tells the story
of
a family farm which went under in the '80s
but
came back from the brink of oblivion
reconfigured
as Angelic
Organics CSA.
They
take the community part of that
seriously,
complete with a learning center which
hosts
and educates all kinds of people. Because
Sarah
donated
some
flour, we were invited to visit along
with a large group of political refugees from Iraq,
Bhutan, Burundi, Pakistan, and Sudan who were
there under the auspices of the Kovler Center
and
International
FACES. Most had emigrated from
farming villages and for many
this was their first
trip out of the city since arriving in Chicago. >>
