| Amtrak's eastbound Empire Builder (train #8) departs Seattle's King Street Station every day at 4:40 pm. It rolls north hugging Puget Sound shoreline until it turns east at Everett to begin its slow ascent up and under Stevens Pass via the 7.79 mile long Cascade Tunnel. |

The cars have been
renovated so now there's power at every seat but the train remains immune from the internet, which at first is disappointing as one searches for a network but in the end turns out to be a blessing. Being forced to look inward is a richer experience than going online again. |
