Amtrak's eastbound Empire Builder
(train #8) departs Seattle's King Street
Station every day at 4:40 pm. It rolls
north hugging Puget Sound shoreline
until it turns east at Everett to begin its
slow ascent up and under Stevens Pass
via the 7.79 mile long Cascade Tunnel.

The cars have been renovated so now
there's power at every seat but the train
remains immune from the internet, which
at first is disappointing as one searches for
a network but in the end turns out to be a
blessing. Being forced to look inward is a
richer experience than going online again.
