There are about 14,000,000 arrests
made annually in the United States. That's roughly 38,350 arrests per
day in
the land of the free. Incarceration is
one of the USA's last growth industries.

From www.co.kittitas.wa.us/sheriff/corrections.asp:
"The Kittitas County Corrections Center (KCCC) was built in the 1980's.
The facility was originally designed for 45 beds. We currently house
approximately 105 inmates. Long term inmates may be housed in a number
of other contract facilities in eastern Washington."
That's more than double the intended
capacity. "Contract facility" is
Newspeak for private prison. Profit motive is a dubious foundation for
a justice system. |
