How far is it to the horizon? This question came up when standing on the beach looking to islands--cayes, or keys-- at the edge of seeing. I look it up later: about 3.1 miles when seen from sea level, closer than I thought it'd be. I'm higher than that here, on the wraparound deck of a cabana on stilts, watching Sarah swim in the bay. She's waving, not drowning, in the offing where the line between sea and sky is not clear. |
