[Postcard to Blair
Wilson] Thanks for the lovely Urpflanze
book. Speaking
of mythical flowers,
this is Haleakala
Silversword, which
exists only in Haleakala "crater"
on Maui. Look it up!
It lives up to 50 years
but flowers only once
and then promptly dies,
kind of like salmon.
Pictured here is a rare
example of a plant in bloom,
otherwise they just look like spiky
silver balls.
After they die their skeletal
remains persist
a long time in this surreal
arid landscape. ♥
