when
you get a
chance to see
a living legend, go!
tonight it was George
Clinton & Parliament
at the Neptune, a
groovy sea-themed
theater that was
just the right
size for funk--
enough room to
move but cozy.
george was not
in very good voice
and spent much of
the show sitting
in a non-descript
swivel chair, but
he presided in style
as his family of 16
or so players, singers,
dancers, and rappers
dominated the stage
and churned out an
epic sonic onslaught.
he was more conductor
than performer and that
was ok--his genius lies
in his legacy, which
showed itself tonight to
be a living, joyous thing.
