19 years ago i boarded a train
with my Dell desktop tower
carefully swaddled in clothing
and packed in a large suitcase.
what i wouldn't have given then
for a smartphone and twitter,
neither of which existed yet.
today i boarded a train with a
laptop, iphone, and cameras,
but somehow the thrill is gone.
too much information 24/7 and
all i wanted to do was unplug
for the duration of the trip,
which is more or less what i did.
usually, we bring a bunch of
books to read, but this time we
had just one between the
two of
us and even that was more than
we needed as we alternated
between team solitaire and
staring blankly out the window.
