it was hot and i was hoping to get off early but
building bespoke bifold doors took longer than i
thought.
even so, 7 pm was still plenty hot for a late last
minute plunge off J dock where we witnessed a
seagull
pluck a large thrashing fish from the lake. it bit
off more than it could gulp and spent the next 20
minutes
pecking
it to death, nibbling bits of flesh between
abortive attempts to choke it down all at once.
i envied
the bird its clarity of purpose. meanwhile,
bellevue glowed with borrowed light as the sun
went down over
our shoulders. no snow in the mountains, water a
perfect temperature, summer has finally arrived in
seattle.
