Picture of the Day

they say there are no straight lines in nature, though crystals come close.
but these rows of inch-high ice minarets ain't exactly natural taking shape on
the wavy corrugated plastic roofing panel that covers our compost piles. it's
one of country living's privileges to pee outside, and i contemplate the circle
of life as i expel liquid waste that will find its way back into the produce we
harvest--and how, once eaten, the circuit will be closed. in the meantime,
i melt a hole below as i marvel at the ongoing growth of our frost forest,
accumulating day by day in the shade even as the sun shines within sight
while we work in chilly shop space reclaiming salvaged oak floor boards.
