distance
is measured in inches, time is measured by feet.
my first full day of real leisure in a while
slipped through my hands like a greased eel, a
week of weather in one day, carousel of sun,
clouds, and rain. it
cleared up just before sunset so i squeezed
into my still damp and clammy wetsuit and went for
a quick dip. my neighbor slavko hailed me from his
backyard on the slough: "how's the water?" "good,"
i said, face and extremities only slightly numb.
holding up my phone, i swam one-handed across to
his place. he offered me a shower, a towel, and
his robe. who am i to refuse old world
hospitality? we drank tea and discussed the dire
situation in his hometown, kyiv. |
