when cats try to teach you something, pay attention.
i took a little lie-down next to patchouli,
who set the pace for the afternoon. she likes to
slip under just the top blanket, and i curled up
beside her, but deeper under all the covers, so we
were separated by a couple of layers of fabric. i
dozed off, then came to because sunny
had jumped up on the bed and was coming in hot,
expecting me to lift the blankets for him. he
entered the makeshift tent and stepped onto my chest
then flopped on his back in the crevice between me
and patchouli, who protested with a grunt but
grudgingly adjusted minutely to accommodate him.
although he
might not look too comfortable, he stayed that
way
for hours so it must have been ok, and though
i had other things to do i couldn't bring
myself to disturb him and the lesson
i absorbed is that there might be no
higher purpose than to cuddle with
cats and imitate their ways.
