wasn't
expecting today to be so glorious, blue skies,
warm
breeze wafting the funky tang of exposed tideflat
baking in
the morning sun. first ripe strawberry of the
season seemed
to shout pick
me so i did. it tasted just
alright. high tide was
4:13pm, kind of low at 9.78 when 8 feet is the
minimum for
easy swimming, but the water was surprisingly
warm, 69F
degrees in the top layer according to wrist
thermometer,
a romantic temperature for
oysters, a bit earlier than usual,
i plow through their released gametes aswirl on
the surface.
i stayed in a
good long while, cycled through all the
strokes,
finished with my favorite--fully submerged, wide
hard pulls,
eyes open on a different world, a peek into primordial
past.
imagine living in the ocean, no borders and all
that vertical
range of travel! drip drying on hot
rocks under a
fierce sun,
i felt connected, resonant with the planet,
blessed by luck of
existence, wishing everyone might feel such simple
bliss at
least once. it comes and goes, but when it happens
it's like
a door cracked open you can never quite get to
fully close.
