spacer there are 3 things i do only about twice a year:
cut my hair, wash the car, and mow the lawn.
in early spring, i knock the grass down every
time it gets knee-high, but once the rains abate
after that initial exuberant growth spurt i more
or less let it go, only line trimming spots that get
a little too bushy. some see dandelions as weeds
,
but the difference between them and wildflowers
is purely semantic. Taraxacum are self-portraits
of the sun, embody its light, withdraw and avert
their gaze
at night. they're little yellow barstools
for bees who stagger off drunk on their nectar or
pass as dainty hors d'oeuvres for slender legged
sophisticates who nibble their heads as if they
were delicacies presented on elegant skewers.
i've always wanted to "grow food, not lawns"
but now i see we were doing it all along....
