Someone forgot to mention
life after school detention
we should have made some more mistakes
when we were young
like in those after-school specials
when things were not so consequential
and every day's another game of ring and run
we tried that once, it wasn't fun
& now we're eating dinner with the breakfast club
you'd love to scratch your eyes out
but it's too late to call a time-out
or to worry about the ghosts of futures past
so grab your mittens, you stupid kitten
find your ball of string and make it last
you're not the first person
to have opposable thumbs
or to be eating dinner with the breakfast club
