CORNWALL, CT
July 1996
Journeying with Chet & Chuck for a weekend
of naked weed-pulling, asparagus fresh out of the ground and a hayfield full
of fireflies, the corn we bought triggered the cashier's allergies, her arm
turned red and itchy, we offered apologies. It rained one day and the
cold creek made us scream but we lay down in it anyway. The headstones
in the colonial-era cemetery bore rhymed epitaphs and one had been engulfed
by the growth of a memorial tree.
