it all comes 'round again.
on a long island beach 5 or 6 years ago, a random
photographer looked at my work and suggested i
manipulate it to make it more interesting. i
largely ignored the suggestion until recently when
preparing for vital 5's overdrawn
show i started adding text, then drawings, to
stacks and stacks of prints i had languishing in
my closet. (this one is from Big Sur, April 1996.)
i use markers, paint pens, and wite-out. the
technique also works well with glossy
advertisements.
i imagine a day when everything is named for its
corporate sponsor. peugeot sound, the mcdonald's
river, exxon ocean, nike mountain, lake coca cola.
history is written by the winners, and most places
are named for their conquerers. |
