yesterday, the rains came back. needed a tarp to cover all the bikes in our yard--flats, rusty chains, waterlogged seats peeling once supple leather covers. the usual mess, the fruits of excess. went with chrystya on her lunchbreak to Fred Meyer, the Northwest's version of K-Mart, Wal*Mart, Target, etc., distribution center for Chinese imports, the slavish machine. C. bought me a tarp, 8x12, for 8 bucks, to replace the one I lent still covering unused backseat for her van in her backyard. I drifted to electronics, needing to replace my camera, came across an Argus, Chicago-based manufacturer since 1936, Dave B recently bought a medium format of that brand for $7 at ValueVillage (thriftstore subsidiary of Wal*Mart), and the receipts roll out of registers like Rapunzel's hair. In America it's bad form not to mention how much you spent. So, 50 dollars later, I have a new camera, a Photo Phazer, low end but high concept, the pistol grip is perfect for while I'm still in this cast. I haven't pulled it on any cops yet, but when I do you can bet it'll be my last picture. It shoots jumpy video, too, but nothing that can compare to ArtSpots, coming soon to a TV near you...
