Went to the City Repair
workshop,
watched a rehash of last night's program
(it was good but the room was dark
and
i closed my eyes for a few easy
minutes).
Then we walked around the Int'l
District,
examining with a critical eye
intersections.
I watched pigeons and seagulls,
their shadows
big swooping up buildings. The
pigeons sit
close together on a wire, city
birds used to crowding.
A man does tai chi in sandals as
another passes
on a Segway. We go back inside to
play with clay,
envisioning ways to improve
community space.
My first act is to craft a
skateboarder and I place
him in the middle of the street.
It's the only person
anyone places and I don't mean to
be preachy
but any one body is all it takes
to reclaim a place.
Still, it's a cool exercise and
improves my mood
from hopeless futility to
transcendent creativity,
but maybe there was MSG in the
Vietnamese food
that followed because after riding
the 26 bus home
I denied sun and society, took a
nap on the couch. |
