celebrated his 78th birthday
by spinning
his
collection
of 78s on wind-up Victrolas
brought in to create an old
timey parlor diorama. We had
a little unplanned excitement
when the 78
candles on his $5
convenience store frozen cake
united in a bright conflagration
whose black plume threatened
to set off fire alarms until we
leaned in close with hot faces
aglow to blow out the flame....
Then drank
Old
Fashioneds
to steady our nerves as the
records wound down again.
