The Trash Cycle-Own is a large brown garbage can with no bottom mounted
above a strong electric fan which blows a variety of lightweight refuse round
and round inside a clear plastic tube. It was conceived and constructed by
request for the
6th
Annual Recycled Art Show. The Cycle-Own is my latest
attempt to put waste to good use; if not practical, it is at least delightful
to
watch
the rubbish dance, making its own
musique
concrete. Finding the
optimum balance of detritus was like cooking up a new recipe; after much
experimentation, the end result is a tasty trash stew. It's on display for
a
short time only (Sundays from noon-3 pm from April 20 to May 4), with a
final chance to see it at the closing party on Saturday, May 10, 6 - 9 pm
at
5201 Ballard Avenue. Thanks to
Marty
Brennan,
Peter
Bevis, and the
RE Store for providing inspiration and material
support.
