Sun comes out and the scene resumes at Golden Gardens as if summer had just
slipped out for a quick smoke.
Lovers
on logs, shirtless guys playing volleyball, teenaged women eager to show
off their legs, and at least eight
kiteboarders
tearing it up, wind from the north. A guy with an elephantine lens avidly
photographed them--maybe
for a newspaper to
mark it as an official craze. Sarah
worked on her tan and I got lost among the
tall skinny trees
and thought, A-ha! ...So
that's where the name came from, the low winter sun lighting up the trunks
till they glowed. I put my hand in
the
ocean.
