My
last name is Czech for game, as in wild
meat, so it's likely that my ancestors
were hunters. Me, I
stalk the 21st century in search of 45s
and little portable phonographs on which to play
them. This trip to the midwest
was fruitful--whole
stacks of 50-cent records and a cute
cardboard player with a
surprisingly big and rich sound discovered in
cluttered basement shops. Years ago Sarah and I
typed on this train.
Now she
napped in the sun while the
records spun. It
worked great! The rhythms overlapped and
it only skipped once.
