One of my favorite sayings is, "If it
weren't for the last minute nothing would ever get
done." I've done that dance enough times to have
learned its frantic steps by heart. Often it's due
to my own tendency towards procrastination, but
this time it was more because of a very short deadline.
Regardless of the reason, I needed a vinyl print
made impossibly fast and was grateful to have been
recommended to Waldo Vega of Ballard
Outdoor. He came back to his shop after
hours yesterday to print the job, but
unfortunately my upload to his server failed. So
then he drove by and picked up a disc and promised
to do it first thing this morning. He called at 8
am to say it was ready so I got a Zipcar and
zipped over. He then proceeded to "help" me mount
it by doing it all himself as I watched and
learned the unforgiving process. (He even offered
to take this picture, bedhead and all.) Then I
drove it over to Capitol
Hill and delivered it with about a minute to
spare. I know this isn't a very interesting story
but I want to express my gratitude to Waldo for
making the seemingly impossible happen with grace,
efficiency, and at a price that was more than
fair. I can't recommend him
strongly enough.
