what happens when you try to walk around an
object. luckily something in our brains
compensates and pulls the image together.
otherwise you might trip. today i scooped dirt
from a hillside to fill pig holes in the citrus
orchard. i mowed in between dumping three full
loads and then put the water barrel ballast back
in the bucket so i could finish cutting the
remaining knee-high grass. a helicopter tracked
the line of kalepa gulch pretty low so i waved
to it. i always wave to planes, trains, and
ships if there's the least chance someone aboard
might see me. strangers in the night. learning
to operate and photograph a tractor has been one
of the greatest pleasures of my year or so out
here in the wilds of kaupo, maui.
