as a kid, TV
was my god. i really couldn't get enough.
then, at 12, i had a moment of clarity and
cut myself off. so it's always something of
a shock when, on family visits, i get
exposed to the babble and cackle of a
morning "news" show. today, they relayed
images from a spacecraft flyby of an
asteroid 4,000,000,000 miles away at the
edge of our solar system. what did the host
have to say about this mind-boggling
accomplishment? "it looks like a potato
chip!" that was it, and everyone laughed. in
the evening the family gathered for Big Bang
Theory, which i first heard of here. the only
surprising thing about it was this "vanity card" by the show's creator at
the end. but even this was an approved message.
