this is our beach today, a half hour walk past the acrid tang of a community ballfield's hot rubber dust degrading in the sun. (can't help but think of the first lyrics i wrote as a high schooler, "marvin and the toxic playground," recorded in one take with the talented mr. king.) we like to get to denny-blaine early, when the water's flat and all is quiet. we helped this fellow peace appreciator down the steps, skinnydipped per usual, and timed our departure to the arrival of daily party float guy....
