in seattle for the weekend for a dose of
work and culture, i set out on foot for noon
meeting with a client clear across town. i'm out
of practice when it comes to pounding the
pavement; city walking dictates a certain pace and
rhythm and it took several blocks to relearn my
usual loping urban gait. i arrived 15 seconds
early, waited, then rang at the stroke of twelve.
punctuality gives me a thrill--a moment of
alignment, the illusion of surety. and there were
other appointments to keep: 3pm
artist talk at frye, then 7:30 film
screening at nwff, with walks back home in
between. a lot of steps. at the talk, i was
distracted by food caught in my teeth, no
implement handy. luckily, we'd been given a slip
of paper to use for closing QnA session. i rolled
mine into a pointy cone and used it to dislodge
the residue. with its long reach and easy-hold
handleŽ, it got me thinking it's time to rethink
toothpicks. see? proof that exposure to art is
inspiring! at the film forum, i found
re-inspiration in nikola
djuric, in whose work i felt a shared
sensibility. topped off a headfilling day of mundane spectacle, art theory, and experimental film
with lively latenight conversation with curators milan milosavljevich and
caryn cline.
