i
was planning to go to tahuya anyway when free
offer of an
unusual building material popped up on trashnothing. 750 lf is a lot, and though we
have no immediate plan for it, it seemed
worthwhile to detour to vashon for this $2000
lumber value. the offerer was a retired contractor
who'd had these leftovers
set aside for years. "i've seen that movie," i
commiserated, thinking of our various stacks and
piles. but this time will be different! the
16-foot rounded 2x8 planks were heavy, so i opted
to take just a little more than half today,
promising to return for the rest--
probably tomorrow to take advantage of sunny
forecast. took more than an
hour to load
and strap, and i fretted as rack lurched and
swayed with
every bump in the road, at the mercy of the kinetic forces in play.
i was first
in line at tahlequah for the point
defiance
ferry,
wishing i'd set the load further back,
but it
proved adequate.
