if i could, i'd
fix humanity, but who am i to diagnose the
problem, let alone prescribe a solution? instead i
set to work on this snapped rake handle. it was a
jagged break, and the two pieces fit together as
if finger jointed, but unlike
bone it would never heal and knit itself into a
stronger matrix, so i cut the ends square, drilled
5/8" diameter
hole as deep as the bit
would go in each, doubled that depth for the
length of 5/8" dowel inserted with wood glue for
lube as i joined them, then let that dry,
drilled pilot holes through dowel, and scrounged
two random screws of just the right length for
countersinking without poking out the back. good
enough again for light to moderate raking.
