I suppose the
thing we like about Marketime is the way they
crowd the shelves just like a corner grocery
in New York City. Rumor has it that they have
the widest selection of ANY supermarket
ANYwhere although the store is only a quarter
of the size of the Stone Way Safeway just five
blocks away. Maybe it's because they're not
selling their shelfspace; you don't see three
tons of the same brand of cat litter or a
Warholian assemblage of Campbell's Soup. They
have a whole aisle of wine and the price for
bananas changes every day. I asked the cashier
if that were her baby. "Oh my God no," she
said, which seemed to me a sensible answer. |
