i wrote:
"sometimes i worry about inevitable pain
and suffering of disease and ageing, but then
i catch myself: how do i feel right now?
take a deep breath. pretty good!
that's all there is and i'm happy.
watching my mother's illness progress,
i saw she could handle the pain
and treatments, but the thing which got her
depressed was DREAD. then she'd close
her eyes, face the sun, and smile.
it makes me cry to write this now."
