| You might breathe a sigh of relief that 2016 is coming to an end, but there's no reason to expect next year will be any different. Beloved celebrities will die, the excesses of capitalism and empire will continue to inflict misery at home and abroad, political corruption will reach new lows, climate change will intensify, species will go extinct, water and air will be poisoned, random acts of violence will horrify, and we'll be tested by all kinds of unprecedented events. But I'm optimistic insofar as nothing brings people together like adversity, so in honor of the resourcefulness and positive attitude we'll need to get through, I offer this talisman with a booger smile and face scrapings for eyes. Good luck in 2017! We'll need it! |
