| the mission
this weekend brings us to bucolic Mission Lake, where Shawn Landis and Jodi Rockwell keep improving upon Rockland Woods, a rustic but comfortable artist residency with lodge, studios, and accommodations. we're here to test build a wooden bench, prototype for a dozen or so functional sculptures Sarah is commissioned to build in Philadelphia next year. we're still working out the design, materials, and methodology for a structure that's cheap, durable, and quick to assemble. first step was to treat lumber i left here in June with Kilz Klear, process ably supervised by Nico, Mary the caretaker's adorable cat. then it was time for a lake break, replete with dogs, kids, a swamped canoe, SUPs, kayak, and a couple of cold ones in a dripping wicker basket of ice. from there i went to the outdoor clawfoot tub where, like Archimedes and others, i found inspiration... |
