When it comes to gaping
holes in pavement,
it's tough to beat Philly for diversity. There's
your standard top-down
pounded-out potholes; stupendous sinkholes from sudden subsidence;
and then these oft-abandoned intentional apertures
cut into asphalt for utility access.
Whatever their provenance, these catch-alls
inadvertently help keep the streets a little more
tidy as they become receptacles for blowing litter
and deliberately deposited trash. Watch your step!
