side window is an apt illustration of how i felt on
the home stretch after second two-hour round trip in
12 hours to emergency vet in gig harbor.
the exam was inconclusive but at least they
stabilized him with a subcutaneous fluid injection.
i could've done that much myself and saved $419, but
they won't sell you the goods to DIY. mixing profit
motive with health care is barbaric and perverse and
it was morbidly fascinating watching the vet try to
balance what was necessary with the impulse to
upsell an additional $700 of probably irrelevant
x-rays and blood work, like a car
dealer pushing frivolous options. having a
sick pet is stressful enough without having to
decide as a layman where to draw the line on
treatment. i opted to wait and see, got the boy
home, crashed out exhausted despite caffeine
overload and fretting over whether i'd made the
right call, a
tranquil dawn belying the turmoil inside.
