the ribbed rungs of this aluminum extension
ladder look a lot like the train we disembarked
at wisconsin
dells, a name which until today conjured
images of the area's famous
sandstone rock formations, but from now on
i'll always associate with water parks, go karts,
and other all-american tourist attractions,
reminding me of the florida resort towns where my
family vacationed in the '70s, with commercial
strips dedicated to iffy restaurants, t-shirt
shops, and self-styled museums--well, true kitsch
never goes out of style! we're here on a two-day
detour to help cathi
schwalbe wrap a 19th century barn in
fabric as part of the Farm/Art
DTour, which is how i found myself
high up a ladder duct taping strips of foam along
the sharp edges of metal roof to protect the sheer
white polyester from catching and tearing. after
two days and nights in coach it was good to be out
in the fresh air with something to do. |
