wrapping a barn in fabric sounds easy enough
until you try to do it. it was my idea to use a
boomlift and as luck had it a nearby neighbor, andy enge, lent us
his. he
trusted me to lift him to the roof, where he
skillfully
unfurled and draped the unwieldy
bundle despite high wind gusts that made this part
of the job perilous. but because of a power line
in the way, one side remained to be sewn into place,
which is what sarah is doing here. this art
piece by cathi
schwalbe is intended to draw attention to this humble roadside barn with a
secret history to share: it narrowly avoided being
destroyed by the tornadoes of 1870--a local
catastrophe that still haunts the edge of
memory. |
