The biggest difference between
NYC and Seattle is the latter has more old Bugs
than new on the streets. Those cars sure are cute.
Designed by Ferdinand Porsche, Sr., the Volkswagen
prototype was called the KDF-wagen, short for
Kraft Durch Freude ("Strength through Joy").
Porsche and Hitler both wanted to replicate Henry
Ford's success in building an affordable car for
the working man. Ford was an ardent Nazi
supporter and friend of Hitler. After the war,
Porsche was briefly imprisoned by the French for
his use of slave labor but
was quickly cleared of charges. Most German
industrialists were never held accountable for
their war crimes. Business as usual.
