Hana means work
in Hawaiian because
in the old plantation days that was where
people worked and were supplied by the
company store. The hana
Hana was named
for is long gone but the store still sells at
monopoly prices and I do my shopping
there every Sunday, then head to Hamoa
Beach's crystalline blue green waves and
sandy shorebreak perfect for bodysurfing.
It would be better if I'd found a suitable
bike
or scooter out here but anything that doesn't
grow on a fruit tree or swim in the sea is
hard
to acquire in remote sparsely populated
Kipahulu,
so I rely on hitch-hiking, which for the most
part
works pretty well. Until today.
