monday morning, cloudy,
low 60s,
high of 77 predicted, 80%
humidity. going to west
seattle to dismantle
jan's
deck, rearrange layout,
replace delaminating
composite boards,
guaranteed for 30 years,
barely lasted 10. that's how it is,
technology keeps improving but
the standards are slipping.
the only way to move the
economy forward is
planned obsolescence--
break it, replace it. when
i was a kid people rented
their phones from Ma
Bell and those black
rotary doorstops lasted
50 years or more. now
it's expected (almost
required) to upgrade
every 3 years to the
latest surveillance
device and pay for
the privilege of it spying on you. that's progress,
i guess. and so concludes
today's forecast... (but!
to their credit, my makita
tools last and last.)
